Broaden the conversation and take your seat at the table

Our purpose of the day is to enhance services for culturally and linguistically diverse populations. Assessing attitudes, practices, policies and procedures of administrators and service providers is a necessary, effective and a systematic way to plan for culturally competence care within an organization. Determining the needs, preferences and satisfaction of family members/consumers is an essential aspect of this process.

Our goal is to provide information and strategies that will assist families in the journey to exercise leadership through active involvement in decision making processes related to members with special needs and to ensure Tennessee is a State that values cultural policies, practices and procedures.

Each of us have the ability to influence systems and effect positive change in our community and this event has been designed to ensure resources to sustain and enhance advocacy with the extensive network of private and public entities.

Together We Can Bring Unity to Our Community of Mental Illness.

Hosted By

NAMI TN Multicultural and Faith Outreach & TN STEP (Support and Training for Exceptional Parents)

NAMI TN from its inception  has been dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness.

For  decades, NAMI tn has established itself as the most formidable grassroots mental health advocacy organization in the State. Dedication, steadfast commitment and unceasing belief in NAMI TN's mission by grassroots advocates have produced profound changes. NAMI's greatest strength is the dedication of our grassroots leaders and members. We are the families, friends and individuals that serve to strengthen communities across the country.

Due in large part to generous individual, corporate, and foundation donations, NAMI TN is able to build on its success and continue to focus on three cornerstones of activity that offer hope, reform, and health to our American community: Awareness, Education, and Advocacy.

TN STEP  (Support and Training for Exceptional Parents) is a statewide family-to-family program in Tennessee, established in 1989 by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The purpose of STEP is to support families by providing free information, advocacy training, and support services to parents of children eligible to receive special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) who reside in Tennessee.

STEP services are available to any parent or family member of a special education student or a student who may need special help in school (birth through age 22). There is no charge for services to parents. Professionals in the education field are welcome to attend workshops without cost, however there may be a nominal cost for printed materials.
